How Do You Add a Manager to a Google Business Profile?

Invite a person with their own Google Account, choose the right access level, and keep control of your business profile.

To add someone as a manager, open your Google Business Profile settings, choose People and access, select Add, enter their email, choose Manager, and send the invitation. The person needs their own Google Account. You do not need to share your sign-in password.

Only profile owners can add or remove other users. A manager can handle many everyday tasks, such as editing information, responding to reviews, and managing posts, but cannot add or remove other users or remove the profile.

How do you add a manager to a Google Business Profile?

Use the People and access settings for the specific profile you want to share. Google currently lists these steps for adding an owner or manager:

  1. Open the Business Profile you want to manage.
  2. Select More, then Business Profile settings.
  3. Choose People and access.
  4. Select Add.
  5. Enter the email address connected to the person's Google Account.
  6. Under Access, select Manager.
  7. Select Invite.

Google's official owners and managers guide describes the same flow. Follow its current labels if your screen differs from these steps.

Before inviting anyone, check the profile name and the email address carefully. If you manage several locations, make sure you are changing access for the correct business rather than another profile.

Should you choose Manager or Owner?

Choose the least powerful role that lets the person do the work. For day-to-day marketing and profile updates, Manager access is often enough. Give Owner access only when that person needs broader control over users and profile administration.

RoleTypical accessImportant limit
ManagerCan manage many routine profile tasks, including business information, posts, photos, and review responsesCannot add or remove other users or remove the profile
OwnerCan manage the profile and invite or remove other usersOnly the primary owner can transfer primary ownership
Primary ownerHas the primary ownership role for the profileMust transfer primary ownership before stepping down from that role

A profile can have more than one owner, but only one primary owner. Google's primary ownership guidance explains how this role differs from ordinary owner or manager access.

If you are working with an outside marketing representative, keep the business in control of its profile and grant only the access needed for the work. Google's eligibility and ownership guidelines say that only business owners or authorized representatives may verify and manage a profile.

Should a marketing agency be an Owner or Manager?

A business can usually give an authorized marketing representative Manager access for routine profile work. Google identifies third-party SEO and marketing companies as examples of authorized representatives, and its guidelines encourage the business owner to own the profile and add representatives as managers.

Do not treat access as a transfer of business ownership. Google says authorized representatives must not claim a profile without the business owner's express consent, and should transfer Business Profile ownership to the business owner when requested. If a representative only needs to publish posts or respond to reviews, compare those tasks with the Manager permissions before granting broader Owner access.

What happens after you invite someone?

The invitation must be accepted before the person can use the profile. Google says invitees can accept and become users, and the current users and pending invitations appear in People and access.

If the invitation is still pending, return to People and access and check its status. Google says you can cancel an invitation from the pending section if it was sent to the wrong person or is no longer needed.

New owners and managers may have to wait seven days before they can use certain sensitive features. Google's help page lists actions such as deleting a profile, removing other users, and transferring primary ownership among the features that can be restricted during that period.

Do not treat a newly accepted invitation as an instant transfer of primary ownership. If the business itself is changing hands, use Google's separate primary ownership transfer process.

How do you change or remove a person's access later?

Owners can review the People and access list and change a user's role or remove access. Open the same settings area, select the person, edit their access role, and save the change. The official owners and managers guide also explains how to remove a person or cancel a pending invite.

Managers cannot remove other users, but Google says they can stop managing a profile themselves. If a contractor or employee no longer needs access, an owner should review the list and remove or downgrade that person's permissions promptly.

What can a Google Business Profile manager do?

A manager can handle most routine work without owning the profile. Google lists tasks such as editing business information, creating and publishing posts, managing photos, responding to reviews, and viewing insights among profile capabilities.

A manager cannot add or remove other users or remove the Business Profile. Managers can remove themselves from a profile if they no longer need access. This distinction matters when hiring help: a manager role may be enough for ongoing marketing, while owner access carries user-management powers.

Why might People and access be missing?

First confirm that you are signed in to an account with Owner access and have opened the correct profile. Managers cannot add or remove other users, so an account with Manager access will not have the same user-management powers.

  • Check the profile name before opening settings.
  • Confirm that the signed-in Google Account is an Owner, not only a Manager.
  • Look under Business Profile settings for People and access.
  • If the invite was already sent, check the pending invitation list instead of sending duplicates.
  • If you are dealing with an ownership transfer, use Google's transfer process rather than adding the person as a manager and assuming ownership has moved.

Google may change interface labels or move controls. If the menu differs, follow the current help article linked above rather than relying on an old screenshot or outdated instructions.

How do you keep Business Profile access secure?

Give each person their own access and review the user list from time to time. Google's help recommends separate Google Accounts so people can manage the profile without sharing a password.

  • Invite only people who need access for an active business task.
  • Use Manager when it covers the work; reserve Owner for people who need user-management control.
  • Check that the email address is correct before sending the invitation.
  • Remove access when a person no longer represents or supports the business.
  • Keep at least one trusted business owner responsible for the profile.

Do not send your Google password, recovery code, or two-step verification code to a contractor. An invitation lets the person use their own account and gives you a way to change or remove their profile access later.
